Striated Disk #1 Drawing

This series of ink drawings explores different methods of filling a 17" circle with parallel lines where the width of the black lines equals the width of the white spaces between. Some drawings have one continuous line, other have concentric rings. Each piece in the series pushes me to try something new, but within a strict framework of guidelines. Ripples and natural formations develop from slight variations in the hand drawn lines. Using a felt tip ink pen that gradually changes in size due to the roughness of the paper results in line thickness variation. I wanted to make simple, minimalist pictures from a distance that increase in complexity up close- gray circles that can also be bold and active. I think of them as self portraits.
