ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Alternate Title: Hit & Miss #1 with yellow ------ Much of my minimalist work returns to a search for simplicity in space and motion; a simplicity in how it is seen, not necessarily in the actual piece. #1 is being guided along a path, one that doesn't even fit its shape, it is crossing a supported span and hasn't broken away. ------ In the Structural studies I am exploring a sense of tension and restrained freedom. Each piece is 'telling' a small story where the yellow is making a journey and the dashed lines are the trail behind it, a trail that pushes and pulls, records and crowds. About the series A series of studies for imagined structural spaces. Each drawing in the series can be displayed with the others in varying rotations to expand on the space beyond the edge of each drawing.

I like to work with technology and traditional materials. But space has been a big challenge (don't have any) lately and moving to work small has been one way to keep sane. Until a studio comes available I am finding my visual 'voice' using colorful pigmented archival artist inks on heavy paper. I love the way the inks can be splashed, layered, blended, bled or controlled. I use them in fountain pens or by brush, which allows me to find the impressions and shapes that need to be laid down. I post most of my new works on my Patreon page as a big big thank you to my Patrons who have supported my ability to make new work over the last several years. Without them things might have been very difficult this last year and a half. I am currently considering isolation (social, physical, emotional), space and illusion as part of the investigation process for installations which are concerned with an intersection of the abstraction of what is (reality, perception, delusion) with what we want 'it' to be (reality, perception, delusion). I studied astronomy, physics and history before graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
