The Queen Drawing

This original charcoal drawing is framed in an ornate charcoal coloured frame and reflection control glass. I drew this piece using a reference photograph taken by wildlife photographer Tazi Brown. I am extremely picky in the images I choose to draw as I don't see an image worth drawing unless it expresses a strong message, emotion or behaviour that I would want to capture in charcoal. I chose this image because I loved the fact that the lioness is front and centre. I love the way it subtly conveys the important role in the pride that the lioness plays, compared to the more widely known, however arguably less complex and demanding role of the male. I see this image representing the male guarding and watching over his strong female partner while she runs the pride.
