This black and white, high contrast drawing has a timeless quality about it, which would suit any decor and look great on any wall.

Drawn on white, slightly textured 300 gsm watercolour paper, this drawing uses ink, gouache, graphic pen and charcoal. The deep, jet black areas of the image, such as the torso, uses ink and gouache, which contrasts nicely with the details, shadows and shading used with charcoal.

I do not blend or smudge the charcoal together to form shadows or shading - I prefer to build up layers using a workable fixative as I go, that retains individual strokes. This not only provides a freer, looser look to the overall drawing, but also allows the texture of the paper to show through.

This drawing has been fixed to prevent any charcoal smudging or movement. Delivered in a tube, it is ready to frame as desired.

I live in Adelaide South Australia and hold qualifications in graphic design and a masters in Urban Planning. I primarily like to create larger scale portraits with acrylics on canvas, but sometimes incorporate collage, water colour, pencil and pastel elements. My paintings consist of spontaneous, abstract style backgrounds with a more realistic and detailed image overlaid on top, so that the two meet and fuse together to become one. I tend to favour two or three bold vibrant colours and black. Black not only provides depth and definition but adds the contrast that really makes the colours 'pop' with brilliance and vibrancy. Nearly all of my paintings contain some element of texture - texture you can really see and feel.
