This is one of my original acrylic paintings on paper, inspired by microbiology and abstract landscapes. I am interested in cellular structures as a point in enquiry within my work. This piece is created on paper with acrylic, graphite and pencils. I create using layers of acrylic, carving my drawing elements back into the paint layers. I hope this piece creates a sense of beauty and calm within a world of chaos.

Ali Herrmann is a mixed media painter, colorist and science lover, whose work explores cellular structures as an origin into her abstract artworks. Creating what she terms ‘micro-biome landscapes,’ Herrmann uses SEM images and organic shapes as inspiration to explore concepts of blood, bacteria, fungi, and unicellular structures within her boldly colorful, abstract artworks. Exploring themes of repetition, rhythmic orders, geometric shapes, and chaos-order theory, Ali brings attention to nature's details that are often overlooked.
