ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The Family Portrait series was created through a process of scanning and digitally collaging old family photographs into new configurations. These became references for the drawn works, which merge realistic and eruptive figures into surreal memoryscapes. The works consider alternate understandings of time, substituting linearity for constellations of moments which accumulate across a lifetime. In a way, the works could be considered self portraits.

Byrne recently completed her Honours year as part of the Bachelor of Fine Arts at UNSW Art & Design.
