You Were Always an Island Drawing

Charcoal on paper This piece was entirely unplanned. It actually started as an automatic drawing. As the drawing progressed, I decided to play with the forms that were already present on the paper, and I chose the direction of the bird. The vertical lines, which are representational of trees, were rhythmically placed, coinciding the music that I was listening to. As with all of my art, my pieces are greatly influenced by the music that I am listening to, or have listened to in the past. The idea in my head, was for the finished product to be a bird in flight, but also a landscape. I wanted to include a bit of reflection, metaphorically speaking, but not in this case; which was the deciding factor to mirror the trees, through my depiction of water. The end result, an island.
