ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The artwork is composed from photography, ink and water colour. It purposefully breaks compositional rules - drawing your eye disturbingly to the red queen. The red queen represents the Deep State, as in Edgar Allen Poe’s classic story, the red queensides in plain sight. Gold is the wealth of humanity in innovation, philosophy and productive assets. Black and white shapes represents the smoke and mirrors with which the propaganda machine, like the gladiatorial games of Rome, seeks to mislead, divert and relieve us of the rule of law, independence and knowledge. Goggles and the perceptual war machine roll forward.

Kristin Hatland is an exhibiting artist with a Bachelor of Applied Arts Visual. A component of her vision and motiviation is informed by her study of logic (cause and effect) while simultaneously applying a normative ethic. The blending of the two philosophical theories provides artistic tension, blurring idealistic expression, driving her fascination with abstract art. An award winning artist, she has exhibited at the Shutter Room in Whangarei as part of the group exhibition Metapherein, was part of the selection for The Exposure Award launched by the Louvre in Paris, and the bastille from her Plato’s Cave series was amongst the finalists and winners included in a tour of New Zealand’s museums and art galleries coordinated by the Wallace Arts Trust. Her artworks are held in collections in New Zealand and overseas
