The light installation LIGHT\TRACE No. 9 moves lightly through the room, creating an interplay of lightness and translucence. Transparent fibre optics are laid in loops and inserted between the fine, shimmering gold layers of fabric. The soft folds of the fabric allow the fibre optics to come further forward or backwards, creating an optical depth. Depending on the lighting situation of the surrounding space, the fabric visually dissolves so that only the fibre optics are visible. This ultimately creates a unique, subtle atmosphere. But the fibre optics also create interesting effects in daylight because the fabric now comes to the fore and the fibre optics, on the other hand, optically recede. This creates fine light reflections on the surface of the golden fabric. The fibre optics are individually hand-worked so that they emit their light over the surface at certain points. They are then drawn into the two-layer fabric and looped to create various optical effects. This creates a graphic impression that looks like luminous signs full of poetry, inspired by Arabic scripts. This installation is light art of the subtle kind embedded in light fabric. The delicacy of the fabric of LIGHT\TRACE No. 9, combined with the subtlety of the light, creates a very exciting, yet unobtrusive element that changes its effect at any time of the day, creating ever new perspectives.

Creating a magical poetry of light with subtlety is the challenge of every light object and every light installation of my light artworks. Because the desire to work with spaces and, above all, to breathe atmosphere into them is my greatest motivation. As an light artist, coming from design and interior architecture, I combine art, architecture and design in my projects. A play of translucency and lightness begins with every object in the material. I love creating volume with light without obstructing the view. I break the light down into its individual parts and put it back together again: The sun and LED are the light sources, the fibre optics are transmitters and the material becomes the body. Using the light in a subtle way so that it leaves delicate traces in interior spaces is made possible by the manually processed fibre optics, which form the heart of each handmade light object. In the objects themselves, this creates a sparkle, a dance, a magical interplay of lightness and translucency. In 2015, I founded ATARA design. As a German artist and designer, I live and work in Vienna, the city that constantly inspires me. I love to travel for inspiration, especially to faraway countries. Transformation is my central theme here, because combining different techniques and materials from different areas and cultures and placing them in a new context has fascinated me since my childhood.
