ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I enjoy working with materials in unexpected ways. My inspiration comes from my interest in Fashion and Architecture and how they intersect. Both refer to the body while providing identity. When you look at my work I hope you are transformed. Multiple Viewpoints resembles a dress form in shape. When viewed close up: architectural details become reduced to geometric shapes and colors revealing themselves and becoming recognizable supporting the whole dress as an object.

Gwen Samuels is an installation artist based in Los Angeles with a studio in Santa Monica. Inspired by close observations of her surroundings, she has sculpted the reformatted shape of animals, insects and dresses with delicate hand-stitching and free hanging strings. She also expresses her imagery in textile, cultures, travel and architecture often with repeated patterns and irregular shapes. Her work has been represented in numerous solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally.
