About The Artwork

"Quarantine" from the 'Shifting Nature' Edition 2020 (Butterflies under a bell jar) This piece is a meditation on our human urge to control nature. It also speaks to the results of colonization through technology and how in life, as in our 2020 quarantine, we often feel "alone together". Description: The rotoscoped video images of real butterflies and colorful moths flutter in an oval of light on the screen of an iPod. Time-lapsed orchids, also open, pulsate and close in an endless, silent video loop. See it in video documentation at: https://vimeo.com/404890458/c7c2304780 Box Dimensions: 7 x 7 x 9 inches Actual piece dimensions: 6 x 6 x 7 inches Value: $1,000 Artist name: Violenta Flores (aka Juan Carlos Zaldivar) Packing: We use polystyrene and carton to pack the glass dome and base. The piece needs to be plugged in for continuous play. NOTE: No assembly is required. Infinite video loop. Just plug and play video using the touch screen. Black wooden base is 7" in diameter and 0.67" thick. This Hand-blown dome is made by high borosilicate. It may have slight variations at the crown.
