The Chinese Ancient book Art of War inspires Poon’s work. In fact this book is so popular that it does not only appeal to Army Generals or Politicians but ordinary people. Having a strategy in whatever you are doing is crucial. This piece of work involves pre-requisite planning. In this case, the collating of prints had to be processed well in advanced – as a matter of fact 52 weeks beforehand! In lieu of the preparation, it then requires the cutting of newspaper to A4 size, in this case all 52 pages of them – one for each collated print. The other key specification is that newspaper language display alternates firmly between Chinese and English. Poon’s grand-daughter (now 14 months) has a mixed heritage - having an English father and Chinese mother. From day zero, Poon had been (and still is!) keeping her grandchild’s Skype pictures almost every day over the Internet. This work is not merely to witness the child’s growth and progress spanning over one calendar year, but it addresses the issue of one peaceful world – just a matter of time.
