About The Artwork

A tether is an exploration of the relationship we share with the people who inspire us. Their presence make us feel seen, competent and safe. When you look at a tether, I hope you think about all the times people special to you have helped you realize that you are enough; you are perfect; you matter. Enjoy this poem that was inspired by "A Tether." You fill me up when I’m empty I look at you and see a version of me Twin mirrors with different reflections Yet we never fail to represent Hands on different baton But we run the same race We walk different paths Yet our feet are on the same lane A Duo bound by blood Equally alike and unique Resilient in what we seek A reflection of what we believe And what we could pick As we race towards what we can achieve

Hi. My name is Lynda Charles and art helped me find myself at a point where I was asking, “what do I do with my life?” Here I am several years later, a self-taught artist drawn to creating pieces that talk about our life as human beings, and our relationship with each other. I confess that I prefer portraying the female form because I find it so much more interesting. One of my biggest goals is to make every piece I create tell an emotional story. Because of this, my media has evolved over the years from charcoal on paper to charcoal and acrylic on canvas. This is also why I prefer making large works and taking my time; I believe the smallest details, whether it’s facial expressions or shades and hues, render the most meaning. Take a minute to browse my portfolio and see if any of these stories speak to you.
