About The Artwork

Mixed media work: watercolor and watercolor pencils on acid free paper (300g/m2), without frame, covered with a protective layer of varnish. Original 16.5 W x 11.7 H x 0.1 D in or 42 x 29.7 cm 300 gsm acid free paper Ships in a tube About this Artwork The painting is characterized by a large triangular blue shape in the foreground and a gathering of geometric shapes in earth tones on the background. While this work can be interpreted as pure abstraction, the anthropomorphic and other recognizable forms  and symbols that arise from the interplay of color fields and lines should remain legible and are intentionally left open for different interpretations. About the Artist Luna Ljus is a multidisciplinary artist born in Brazil and based in Germany. She works primarily on semi-abstract watercolor paintings drawing influence from Fauvism and Abstract expressionism, especially Color field painting. Her works are associations of lines, geometrical and biomorphic forms and color that tell a story inspired by myth, literature, art history and pop culture. Technique The artist develops different approaches to a particular theme, subjecting them to a continuous process of form reduction. Her process entails first painting the carefully planned composition with watercolors completely and from there deciding how to modify the color fields and lines. These modifications are made over several days or weeks according to the change in the ideas and feelings that inspired the original composition. The result can be very different from what was initially planned. This allows for unexpected forms or themes to appear in the painting in a way that was not consciously intended. Inspiration Luna Ljus is ultimately concerned with existential questions and her work draws inspiration from Antiquity, Myth and Art History, occasionally with implicit references to Pop culture. Her main influences are Fauvism and Abstract expressionism, especially Color field painting.

Luna Ljus, a multidisciplinary artist originating from Brazil, presents a diverse portfolio centered around the motif of metamorphosis. Her creations resonate with profound shifts—be they physical, emotional, or historical. Drawing from a rich tapestry of inspirations, including mythology, sci-fi, and the annals of art history. Ljus's invites audiences to a realm where the present moment is momentarily set aside, allowing for a cathartic journey through emotion, only to circle back with a rejuvenated perspective. Employing a blend of the abstract and the literal, she reimagines literary, fictional, and historical themes, often through a kaleidoscope of vibrant hues. At the heart of her repertoire is the notion of transformation. Each piece, echoing life's cyclical dance of birth, decay, and rebirth, beckons onlookers to ponder the depths of change. Her visual lexicon unfolds with a mix of geometric musings and organic shapes, painting dreams and hinting at alternate dimensions. There's a deliberate interplay of color and form—a testament to her infatuation with their symbiotic relationship. Ljus's canvases pulsate with energy, largely credited to her choice of spirited, juxtaposed colors. The echoes of Fauvism, Cubism, and Abstract Expressionism, particularly the traces of Orphism and color field techniques, are undeniable in her work. Moreover, the recurring patterns and symbols in her pieces are deliberate nods to mythology, science fiction, and the annals of art history. Ljus's meticulous method involves a profound exploration of narrative through the prism of elementary forms and vivid colors, often blurring the lines between the abstract and the definitive. Her penchant for the tactile essence of paper and water-soluble pigments pushes her to constantly experiment with varied mediums, crafting semi-abstract artworks. Each creation undergoes an intriguing evolution. Beginning with a detailed watercolor foundation, the piece is subject to alterations in color fields and strokes over days or even weeks, reflecting the evolving thoughts and sentiments that sparked its inception. This fluid process sometimes yields unforeseen motifs, adding serendipitous layers to her work. Ljus's oeuvre is thoughtfully segmented into series: "Renewals" delves into the nuances of change. "Strange Worlds" is a poetic contemplation of alternate realities and entities.
