About The Artwork

The artworks of 2031 series bring up the subject of epochs clash and the search for balance in a modern technological world. Symbolic accents in this series are even more contrasting. On one side are the symbols of common human experience, centuries-old knowledge and unlimited human potential expressed by means of ancient Greek gods images. On the other side are social phenomena of the modern digital world – digital overconsumption that affects the whole human culture in a destructive manner. Yellow elements of regular pixel shape are made of yellow flock. That is a special material used in the majority of artworks of The Epoch series – a built-up yellow matte fabric that is visually associated with emojis' basic color. This fabric is applied using an electrostatic field that draws thousands of yellow spikes onto a special surface. This method symbolically visualizes the very essence of physical attraction, and the material itself looks pleasing amidst acrylic paint. Flock induces the desire to touch it and to enjoy tactile feelings. Inspired by the works of Daniel Arsham and his methods of visual rendition of things' ageing, we recreated the image of destructivism, but Arsham's variable of time is complemented with a variable of quality of that time. Vector of our attention influences the quality of time we spend. In the reality of modern world, where our attention is a prize to win by social media, entertainment etc., it is very easy to get in the trap of non-stop consumption of endless content which is all about semblance, not meaning. ‘ΑΘΗΝΑ / ATHENA 2031 series 2022 Oak veneer, birch plywood, fabric (flock), baguette frame, acrylic paint 114*114 cm (45*45 ") This physical work of art is limited to 31 copies. Each work is created from scratch and may differ from the photoswork

The art studio was created by Andrey and Alexey Kulibin in 2020. Experimenting with various techniques, materials and forms, connecting the digital world with the physical, we have found unique artistic solutions that can draw attention to a number of topical issues. EXPLORING TOPICS The studio explores the topic of social transformation in a modern technological world, where a Human’s attention got the status of a commodity. Well-known corporations honed the skill of drawing and selling users' attention to advertisers. Technologies of maintaining attention of those in front of the screen are getting smarter every year, because there are hundreds of smart guys working (for good salaries) on the back end, and they do what their corporation's business model tells them. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest… All these giants share a common goal – financial enrichment. Attention mining is incredibly profitable. Polarization of society, fake news, ignorance, digital addiction, elections hacking- consequences of the influence of the policy of digital giants on the life of modern humanity. The inspiration to work on this topic came from the research of Dr. Andrey Kurpatov, as well as from the American director Jeff Orlowski with his feature films "The Social Dilemma", "Chasing Ice" and "Chasing Coral". TECHNIQUES AND MATERIALS Research on the properties of industrial materials over the past 2 years has led to the usage of a wide variety of techniques and forms. Due to the complexity of the art object, we managed to enhance the overall perception of the content and engage the viewer in a kind of dialogue.
