About The Artwork
I was snooping through a 100 yr-old warehouse when I spied a pile of used lumber in a dark corner. The childhood adage of "finders-keepers-losers-weepers" echoed in my mind. I found two small pieces of wood and without knowing what plans I had for them I stowed them in my knapsack. It was getting late in the evening so with the guidance of my flashlight I headed back to my studio with wood in hand. (Sorry, couldn't resist). The next day I was excited to work with my 2 new found objects. The challenge of not knowing, not planning ahead of what I create is the most meaningful aspect of my work. The answers create themselves. I nailed the the pieces together and then wrapped the whole work with twine and a cut up old leather belt to bring the form together. I feel my work builds itself and I just hang-on and watch. This work is a must for any medieval dungeon décor -- or your place. There is a wire attached to the work for a easy hanging for any home.

“Found Objects Find Me” is the foundation of abstract multi-disciplinary artist Michael Peterson. Born and raised in Eau Claire, WI he is a true townie and US Air Force Veteran. Through Peterson's time in the service he was exposed to the European Masters and contemporary art greats while stationed in West Germany, which took him on a winding life-long journey of finding trash and making art. Peterson studied at UW-EC after his service in the 80’s but dropped out when the classes turned from art to the gen eds. He has mentored under Tiit Reed, Janet Carson, and CV Peterson. He has exhibited locally at Wisconsin Arts West, 200 Main Gallery, Pablo Center at the Confluence, and the Heyde Center for the Arts. Peterson has also exhibited nationally at Kelwood Contemporary Art, University of Alaska - Anchorage, Kent State University, and more. He has outlasted many of the galleries and clubs he has exhibited with but is always down for a beer and good art conversation. He finds beauty in the rough and that includes life.
