Video demo: https://vimeo.com/878545027 These abstract geometric shapes are illuminated with multi-color LEDs to explore how flowing lights can affect how we feel. The dynamic patterns are designed to entertain, energize, and mesmerize the viewer, encouraging deeper engagement with the work, and offering a soothing antidote to the stresses of the modern world. The front layer of this piece is a shallow dome shape made of soldered metal rings. On the inside, RGB LEDs are mounted behind a fabric diffusing layer, with one LED aligned with the center of each ring. Some diffused light is also visible through the negative space between rings. The lights filling the circle are arranged with three-way (and sometimes 9-way) symmetry, and are animated with repeating color sequences that produce a variety of hypnotic patterns and optical illusions. When it is first powered up, the piece will run a repeating sequence that cycles between a list of 10 modes, half of which are sound-reactive. It can also be set to run a single pattern continuously, using the built-in mode switch on the back panel or with the artist’s custom Enlighted iOS BLE App. Any subset of pieces from this group (Enlighted Rings 14 through 20) can be synchronized with each other using the same App, or by turning them on simultaneously.
