There is a moment in time during a layup, right after the basketball leaves the hand of the player, when the time stops. On one hand, the fans are holding back from the premature excitement. On the other - there is still a glimmer of hope that the ball will miraculously not make it inside the basket...

With background in fashion and industrial design as a footwear designer, Konstantin Maloy explores various industrial fabrication techniques to structure his mixed media works - found and up-cycled leathers, fabrics, and synthetics are stitched together into visual compositions which experiment with tactile and visual temperature qualities. The subjects of Konstantin's works are primarily hand studies - being the most sensory and communicative part of the body. The moments get frozen in time - in the middle of a gesture or an athletic movement - to connect with the viewer and the surrounding environment. Konstantin was born in St. Petersburg, Russia growing up in the economically distressed country in the 90's after the fall of the Soviet Union. His family's household was equally distressed as the situation in the country at the time and at the age of 14 he was adopted by a family from the United States. Now Konstantin lives and works between the two cities of Philadelphia and New York.
