About The Artwork

My undergrad was very classical in nature, solid foundational studies. Some time on I was inspired by the work of Tim Hawkinson and later drawn to California Funk. I know early one I wasn't really satisfied with painting or sculpture, but really loved certain elements from each. Inspired to fuse the two together I started creating backdrops and suspending plexiglass, which I would paint on, cradled above it in a frame. For me, it was the perfect tribute to both art forms, but it was also necessity. Materials and what can be done with them are an influence in my work. Least not to say, humor is a big part of my work. Mainly a dry deadpan humor that permeates the upper-midwest. I hope viewers will think about the subject matter of the work within their own lives and get lost in complexity of the work itself and the childlike imagination it holds. Most of my work revolves around drawing , that’s big to me. One of the problems with this is I have idea fleshed out in graphite, then I have to figure out how in the world I’m going to make it come to fruition! Whether it is sculpting forms, making molds, or casting, it is a process I truly enjoy. Equally, hand cutting masking material and applying thick applications of luscious paint is equally enjoyable. It’s an exciting and wild ride from there. There are times it doesn't work out, but the times it does it's incredibly rewarding. And just when I thought I have done every possible method or use of materials, I come across another “how am I going to do that?”moment. I'm constantly pushing materials and myself.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I was born in Wild Rose Wisconsin. Growing up in a rural area I spent hours exploring and building forts, which I feel had an impact on my creative development. Later, I went to two art schools, where I obtained a BFA and MFA. My work usually crosses boundaries in disciplines. I love parts of sculpture, painting, and film and I usually end up fusing the three together. Often, there's a good deal of plexi, mold making, custom cut masking, painting, and film aspects going on all at once. As far as film goes I lean more to being influenced by Bruce Naumen. Whereas, as far as form goes I was influenced by Tim Hawkinson.
