Some of my art works are unplanned, others are. The design of this piece was planned; however, I did not know what it was going to represent. I proceeded to draw it on paper before composing onto the canvas. As this painting began its birthing process and took form into its developmental stages, it spoke clearly to me that it was depicting the mixture of the many diversities, intermingling and intermarrying of the people of my country, hence, the name Opposite Attraction. The black and white signify the unified diverseness of our multicultural and multi-ethnic people with the textured red in the center portraying the blood of one human race, regardless, of ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds. The two shades of red being the blood show our equality of being one people, the (human race) made of the same flesh and blood, despite our individual uniqueness. Our differences are our main attraction. This unframed piece is ready to hang.

Gina George-Phagoo was born and still resides on the Caribbean Island of Trinidad. Her interest in art started in high school, which immediately led to her captivation into abstracts, a very explorative and creatively significant period, which impacted Gina to become a self-taught artist later on as an adult. Gina’s work does not conform to any particular style. The diversity of her abstract pieces can range from varying mediums, tools, textures and substrates. Some can even go beyond a second dimension, that being sculptural. This distinctive approach to abstracts will only appeal more to the collector as they can always find an appropriate selection for their needs. Personal Beliefs Gina is an outspoken Christian and credits her artistic gift to her Lord God and Saviour , Jesus Christ. Although most of her pieces do not carry a religious connotation, she gives thanks and praise to Him for every piece that she creates along with every aspect of her life. She is ever humbled and thankful for this gift, stating, “One of the main aspects that keep me inspired by abstract art is its reliance on personal perception. A piece can be admired and analysed differently by each individual, leaving each person with a different view on its beauty and form." As Gina poetically puts it, “abstract art is the essence of the unspoken word, the heartfelt emotion and the blissful dance of an array of colour and form.” Personal Philosophy Art is an expression, a dream, of what is and what is unseen. It is being on a journey of enthusiasm, passion and sheer delight. Throughout the stops along the way I am intrigued to explore where the stops lead and as I arrive at my final destination the satisfaction and joy overwhelms me as the journey is concluded. This is the meaning of art.
