About The Artwork
From the series of 50 x 50 cms collage canvas. The collage is one of the main techniques of artist Jörg Schmitz who got in touch with it during his studies with visual poet Franz Mon (1926-2022). The series tries to discover similarities between letters and patterns and combines fragments of different times of creation. With this kind of »self recycling« the artist indulges in his passion to collect and preserve parts of his work to use it later.

In the tradition of german informel and visual poetry Schmitz explores and investigates the limitless potential of the alphabet and the handwritten gesture. Thus, he reflects one of the most relevant issues of our time: the fragmentation of our language as our basic communication system.
