ABOUT THE ARTWORK

My digital images are distorted using various tools and filters within an imaging software application resulting in color palettes which can be used individually or combined with other pallets. Landscapes, human forms or objects may appear within these palettes revealing unexpected visual ideas. Additionally figures, objects and faces from pencil sketches scanned and imported into a layer can then be used as a guide for the selection tool or a pen tool creating a space in which to fill in patterns within these figures, objects, or faces which can then be integrated into a new or preconceived theme. Archival print Output: Epson Stylus Pro 9900 (44-inch) photographic ink jet printer. Epson UltraChrome HDR uses 10 color pigment ink technology. Ultrachrome HD ink. The latest generation UltraChrome® HDR™ Inks provide print longevity of from 80-200 years (well over 200 years for black & white) with one of the very largest color gamuts in the industry. Paper: (VERONA-285T) Mould-Made Textured Paper, 285 Gram Verona-285T is a bright, white fine art paper that is acid-free and lignin-free, which results in a high archival quality Digital giclee. Verona-285T is a mould-made, cold press, watercolor fine art paper specifically designed with a water resistant coating that is free of optical brightener.

Robert Messick was trained in the traditional techniques of drawing, painting and photography at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. While working as a graphic artist in St. Louis I experimented with screen printing, works of oil on paper and illustration. Retiring in 2004 he is currently working in digital media creating conceptual art pieces in photoshop and with sculpture using 3-D digital printing cast in bronze. “Digital media offers exciting tools to manipulate photographic images and allows the user to explore digital brush and layer effects not possible with traditional materials.”
