Ritual - mixed media hand finished print Artwork - Limited Edition of 50

This is a mixed media piece. The background is a print of the original 'Ritual' sculpture but I have worked onto it with hand cut paper elements to give depth. The print is window mounted and the paper elements break out of the constraints of the mount into the white space around the image. The piece is a limited edition of 50, but every one is unique. The colours and shapes will differ each time as they are hand cut and the composition will slightly differ each time. Details about the original Ritual sculpture: The sculpture is made entirely from paper and card and is inspired by Lisa's studies of nature and the habits of birds. While watching footage of their behaviour, she observed that it was difficult to distinguish between aggression and attraction. At times the birds appeared to be fighting, but it was actually part of their mating ritual. That dichotomy resonated with her about human behaviour, the fine line between love and hate, passion and aggression. All the paper elements are hand cut and sculpted to create an explosion of colour and a sense of urgency. The circular shaping and dynamic movement aim to capture the power of wild birds in an abstract way; as a source of raw energy and beauty. All the elements are cut by hand; all internal and external structures are created entirely from paper and card. The birds are mounted on wooden birch bases. This work will be on display and available to purchase at the Other art fair, March 9 – 12, London.
