Claudens is an artist working in new media and drawing. His style shows influences of automatic drawing, googie design and grafitty/streetart. The strong lining is his work reminds of mid century designs and Bauhaus. All his images derive from single line drawings that are made in a very fast fashion which resambles the surrealist practice of automatic drawing and the unconscious. His subject – mostly cat-alike – appear is an evocative manner, approaching the subject in a wide range of expressions in a restricted method: the single line drawing. His work is not a conscious design but a collateral event. The artist wants to surpass the conscious rules of esthetic and prefers to be surprised like a spectator of his own artistic foolish carelesness. From this single line drawings grow sculptural works that are lighted in a theatrical way to be fixed in the final stage: a photograph. When the light comes in, all simplicity is gone. His works hoover between drawing, painting, sculpture and photography. Claudens has a studio in the citycenter of Amsterdam and has exhibited worldwide over the past 30 years. Beside artist he is a performing recording drummer/musician.
