Shell - Limited Edition of 25 Artwork

My current series, "Artibles", reflects an interest in serigraphy—screen printing—that goes back to my childhood. With stencil-based designs, it’s possible to create many different versions of an image by changing the colors—something used by the fashion industry to create fabric in various color ways. And with screen printing, it’s also possible to create beautiful blends of color, by mixing the paint as it’s applied to the print. Working digitally, I can create color blends that would be difficult or impossible to achieve using a squeegee. More than that, though, I can change not just the colors of the print, but I can also move around parts of the stencils themselves, exploring how that fundamentally alters the way the image appears. I am transfixed by the wonders of the deep sea, the streaking, pulsing, flashing lights of the denizens of the ocean abysses, and this has inspired this "Into The Deep" group of images. Working with a dark background completely changes the tenor of the pieces and how the colors interact. Most interestingly, I have found that a completely black background sucks the color out of the images, leaving them lifeless; the very deep blue background pushes the color out and makes the resulting images very vibrant. The print is part of a limited edition of 25. The images are dye sublimated onto aluminum, a process that results in sharp, rich colors embedded in the glossy enamel-like surface of the print, really making them pop. The print comes ready-to-hang, float mounted on a bracket with a French cleat system that makes it easy to hang on the wall (the wall cleat is included).
