About The Artwork
In the original illusion, the center diamonds are the same shade of grey. A set of half-ellipses has been added along the horizontal contours. The X-junctions aligned with the contour are consistent with transparency, and they establish atmospheric boundaries between strips. Artistic privilege - I was more interested in the movement created by the two horizontal ellipses. The diamonds & transparent windows may now look like they have different intensity and value, it has to do with with the thickness, volume, and positioning of the foreground objects.
