ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Inspired by first springflowers - snowdrops. If they are growing together, it looks like a white sea with green waves. This work makes a perfect duo with my other artwork with crocusses.

In 2020 I went through a big change in my life. I moved from Saint Petersburg in Russia to the small beautiful island Ameland in Netherlands. I was born and raised in Saint Petersburg and completed a degree in art history. After my education, I worked with great pleasure at several large museums in the city for over 10 years. Since my childhood, I enjoyed of making something. I have tried many different things: drawing, knitting, crocheting, felting, painting on silk (batik) and weaving. Weaving started as a hobby but eventually became a passion. It begon in 2020 when we had to stay at home all around the world. First – online course from italianse textile designer Ilary Bottini, after and until now – practice, practice and practice. Something learn it from other weavers, something from books, but most of all my skills and abilities come from practicing. For my art, I use small or medium table weaving frames, and different sorts of yarn: such as (Amelander) wool, cotton and synthetic and recycled yarns. To create a special structure or color, I use thin fabric strips. I find my inspiration in very special Ameland nature. Every day it looks different, no day is the same and it never gets boring. If I want to make a nature view, I make a sketch first and choose which colours and materials I am going to use. With abstract works I like to work without a sketch. I just start weaving and see where i twill lead me. It always transforms my first idea into something else, but also it makes the end result more vivid and beautifull. For now, nature views are my favourite. But who knows what will come from my loom in the future…
