About The Artwork

50w x 50h x 3 depth. canvas housed in a hand-crafted cherry pine wood frame. ink + plaster + oil + concrete + pigment from arizona desert rocks + ground crystal quartz + charcoal natural black oxide from the french quarries. I wrote this message on New Year's Day, 2023. Looking back on the changes, growth, and success of our business, I realize that reflecting on the intentions I set is the most powerful way to cultivate gratitude within myself: This year, I will do my best to achieve my goals and be kind to myself even when I fail. I will show love and kindness to myself in all areas of my life, caring for my inner child the same way I would for any other child. I will also be loving to those around me, understanding that everyone is fighting their own battles that I may not see. I will remain genuine, honest, humble, and vulnerable, even if my ego feels embarrassed or exposed. I will try to learn and practice new skills that bring me joy, and I will pursue my dreams relentlessly, no matter how many times I may stumble and fall. I will embrace rejection as an opportunity for growth and keep moving forward. I will strive to be my own loving parent, advocating for myself, my mental and physical health, and those I love. I will not measure my beauty by the weight on my scale, nor compare myself to other women. I will challenge my intrusive thoughts with real facts and confront my deepest fears, fighting self-judgment and being transparent about my struggles. I will create new core beliefs and know that I am worthy of loving, honest, and healthy relationships. I will forgive myself and remember that I am human. I will work tirelessly to trust my partner and separate him from my past traumas with other men. No matter how large my self-doubt grows, I will never give up on my dreams. I am changing. I am growing. I am healing. This is not linear. This year will not be easy, but It will be worth it.

Taylor (b.1994) and Connor Robinson (b.1992) are artists creating sculptural mixed media artwork using the moniker visceral home. Their works interpret the human psyche — for trauma and healing, the passage of time, and the relationship between humans and the natural world. Over the few years, they’ve honed in on a practice where the married partners collaborate: Connor creates handmade frames and surfaces on which Taylor paints abstract images. Their art is a kinship of two individual processes and personal meditative techniques that ultimately combine to achieve one thoughtfully balanced vision. The complexities of coping with cPTSD and substance use disorder are threaded throughout their works, revealing a timeline of visceral indentations of the emotional journey of healing. They create artwork to cope with the fear of uncertainty. From these monumental moments, a catalog of collections was born, channeling and transforming various emotions into something useful. With time, they let go of situations and relationships that held them hostage, releasing and transmuting that pain as a new creative avenue toward feeling understood, relieved, and valuable. An abstract expression of the heavy moments that would drown them if there was no cup to pour in. A celebration of the moments of joy and triumph. Their art is a tactile alternative to self-destruction. It is self-preservation. Pouring themselves into creating something that can translate that emotion into a tangible experience that can be visualized and felt viscerally is what they dream of as the ultimate solution to the condition of being human.
