This was not easy to photograph mainly because of the grey background! It is a playful artwork, based mainly on my fond memory of exploring textiles as an art form some years ago and the spools of thread were my exciting palette of colours. I used a random style of arrangement of painted half spools painted with acrylics and finished in a semi-gloss varnish.

The shadows reflect that it is a work in relief. It is coated in a semi-gloss protective varnish. There is no hanging device but it hung on my studio wall without one. However, if framing were required this could be arranged though our in-studio framers, HF Framing.

Signed on the reverse and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

About The Artwork

This was not easy to photograph mainly because of the grey background! It is a playful artwork, based mainly on my fond memory of exploring textiles as an art form some years ago and the spools of thread were my exciting palette of colours. I used a random style of arrangement of painted half spools painted with acrylics and finished in a semi-gloss varnish. The shadows reflect that it is a work in relief. I look for the potential decorative aspects contained in the the subject I wish to paint. Then it is about the process of creating an artist's viewpoint, rather than realism itself. This involves the elements of shape, thinking in terms of an overall pattern and then creating a pleasant mood through choosing colour(s). The aim is simply to enjoy the process of creating and hopefully another viewer of the artwork will have an enjoyable experience also. I think the best interpretation of what I attempt to produce is contained in a quotation from Matisse: “What I dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity devoid of troubling or depressing subject matter - a soothing, calming influence on the mind, rather like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue.”
