Steeped in architecture from an early age, Maria Sevely entered architectural school at fifteen and went on to study architecture, architectural history and fine art at Wellesley, Harvard and RISD. Maria’s background includes substantial work as a design associate with three of the world’s leading architectural firms—Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, Richard Meier, and Philip Johnson—often working closely with the founding principals. She was Senior Project Designer for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., amongst other projects with the Pei firm and Project Architect for Philip Johnson’s last major project, the Cathedral of Hope. With FORM, she is working to develop upon this foundation, utilizing computer capabilities to develop new geometries and advance the application of an analytical design approach for projects to date in New York, the northeastern United States, and China. Architecture is one of several interconnected areas of interest that includes digital media. The work here is from an ongoing series of abstract digital works that were begun almost by chance exploring what could be done with only a computer at hand while in the architectural studio.
