Michalis Vassilopoulos is an accomplished artist and decorator whose works have graced some of the most prestigious buildings and institutions in the world. With a passion for the lightest wood in the world, balsa, which comes from a deciduous tree that grows in the tropical forests of South America, Michalis creates one-of-a-kind mock-ups that are both beautiful and functional. He has a talent for building models that has helped him stand out and win awards early on in his career. Michalis Vassilopoulos rarely talks about his work and keeps a low profile, but his collection of hand-made Monasteries of the Athos Peninsula, to scale, 20 in number, has toured Greece and will travel abroad to countries such as Cyprus, Russia, and Serbia. His work, specifically the church of Our Lady of Lujan, Patron and Patron of Argentina, has been gifted to Pope Francis, as he worked there before assuming his duties in the Vatican, by a delegation of Armenians from Buenos Aires. With over 2,000 constructions under his belt, including one of his largest, "The Hagia Sophia," Michalis continues every day with new ideas. His passion and skill for creating beautiful, intricate works of art with balsa wood is unmatched, and his unique creations are sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone who has the pleasure of viewing them.
