ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This piece was inspired by the beautiful Yucca plants standing either side of my front door in Provence. Working with the fluidity of Georgia O'Keffe in mind, I have created an invisible movement between the panels. allowing you the viewer to fill in the gaps This piece is very textural using a mix of wool, silk and machine embroidery to create different surfaces and definition. The top of each panel is fixed to a box canvas, this allows for fluidity and movement to the piece just as the plant itself would move. It can be delivered with or without the canvas backing for you to choose your own mounting method.

Claire is a British Contemporary Textile Artist. She believes in creating original textural pieces of art that enhance our interior living spaces. Claire likes to connect 2 worlds, encapsulating the outside world and bringing it into the inside one with her original and colourful works. She likes to think that her art work inspires and enriches our environments. She achieves this by creating organic and colourful works painting with wool and silk fibres. Claire was born in the UK, but quickly moved to Hong Kong where she spent her early childhood before returning to the UK. She is now living in the Var region of Provence with her husband and 2 children. They have been there for 18 years. Living in Provence you can understand how it was so inspiring to many an artist in the past, the light, the colours, and the smells continue to inspire in every season. Claire has always had a keen interest in photography and all forms of textiles. She developed this passion for textiles studying Embroidery at Manchester Metropolitan University, which lead her into various creative pursuits, secondary school teaching, art therapy, and ceramics to name a few, but the love she found is in felting or as she likes to call it painting with wool. Claire sees the world through an eye of a lens always framing a view or a detail to turn into an art work. Claire finds inspiration in long walks, travelling and artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe, Picasso, Andy Goldsworthy, Andy Warhol, Ansel Adams, Matisse and Rothko for their use of colour, mixed media, and subjects. “I believe we deserve to live in an inspiring environment both at home and away, I love the freedom and fluidity that painting with fibres gives you. There are no boundaries and each piece is unique in its shape and composition. There is no final say in how the piece turns out its up to the fibres and how they want to work together. I am constantly inspired by botanical forms, the colours and shapes in nature. I like to zoom in on subjects and focus on what others might not see.”
