RamÅ«nas ÄŒeponis was born in 1958 in Vilnius, Lithuania. Since his graduation from Vilnius Academy of Arts in 1983 he has worked in the fields of painting, drawing, and book illustration. Since 1988 he has been a member of the Union of Lithuanian Artists. In Lithuania and abroad he organized fourteen personal exhibitions. ÄŒeponis has participated in many international exhibitions of drawing and book illustration. He is a winner of some of them. Since 1998 to 2004 he was an artist and art director of Publishing House "Vaga". In 2005 he organized the first Lithuanian abstractionism exhibition in Lithuania. Since 2011 he is a teacher in art school "DailÄ—s ArtelÄ—" Against the background of Lithuanian art, the paintings and drawings of ÄŒeponis are distinguishable by the deep philosophical implications, suppressed temperament, internal calmness, and silent explosive power. The artist does not look for external efficaciousness but, like the masters of painting and calligraphy of traditional Far Eastern art, he seeks to expose the poetry and aristocracy of simplicity by minimal means of artistic expression. The sensitivity, distinctness of style, nostalgia for space, desire to express ideas by means of ascetic forms, tones and semi shades is characteristic of his art. The preference for verticals, horizontals and empty spaces speaks about his longing for spiritual values. Prof. Antanas Andrijauska
