A Violet Morning Painting

During early morning in Autumn and winter at around five or six o'clock I look out over the Hudson River and see objects floating there, and movement of the water, as well as reflections dancing off the surface of the river. The river's rhythms and tidal shifts are also the elements I see and often paint. The colors at this time of day and season change from indigos to violets. I am always impressed by the atmospheric qualities of light which also defines Japanese and Chinese painting on screens and scrolls. I have always admired them over the years. I hope the viewer will look with a slow read to enjoy the color's modulations, movements, and spacial quietness.
