Painting: Oil on Canvas.
This series " A Stiller Life" simply started from a practical point. I now have a gorgeous baby daughter and life has become more domestic. These paintings are of things in the house that I find beautiful placed in rooms with in earshot of Ellie.
As my baby daughter starts to discover the objects around her, their shape, colour, texture and her relationship to them, so am I.
I am finding that objects have characters and emotions. They are not just useful or decorative but they can be sad or joyful depending on point of view and placement. They have relationships with each other, gossiping in groups, standing proud or alone and through my paintings I try to tell their story.
Here in "A gaggle of jugs" I painted what I saw as our clucking kitchen hens, jostling, chatting and fussing among each other for their place on the shelf.
I use a pallet knife to capture the essence and energy of a mood and not get lost in detail.
Domestic Bliss can be rather loud and messy and I fnd using white and muted colours calming and soothing and helped to keep things simple.
"A gaggle of jugs" has 0.7 of an inch thick, painted white sides and two screwed in picture hooks and wire on the back for immediate wall handing if you desire a modern, unframed look.
All pictures are signed with the paintings details on a label on the back.
