About The Artwork

A book by Adrienne Rich surfaced in my bedroom standing out from the other books stacked here and there. I noted it for potential reading. Then weeks later, while I was practicing yoga in another room where I have bookshelves, a book by Adrienne Rich caught my eye, “A Wild Patience Has Taken Me Thus Far” I picked it up thinking I should have a look at it… I didn’t realize that both books were by her, then Oddly or interestingly I haphazardly stacked them, one in front of the other, my unconscious noticed the poet’s name, and I paused to think I had put the two books together without realizing they were both by Rich. I checked to find this was so! I thought I must bring them to the studio and paint from her poems. This painting is after the poem, “For Memory” from the above mentioned book.

Giving Form to the Intangible: The challenge is to create an authentic, primal reality, as vital as any living experience in the elemental world of nature, including human nature. The process is inclusive. I initiate it with color and gesture, maintaining its raw form by working with imperfections and oddities as well as reverence and its transcendent moments. There is a pulse, a heartbeat, physical action and a seeking to convey and to understand my resonance in the world. Tangible poetry is the outcome. Saccoccio’s painting has evolved since leaving the dense and linear environment of New York City, where she worked as a painter and attended graduate school at the School of Visual Arts. Life amidst the diverse beauty of California - with its sensual, subtle qualities, such as light, atmosphere, brilliant and earthy colors - has irreversibly changed Saccoccio’s visual vocabulary.
