Lynn Christopher is a fine artist based in Bend, Oregon. Her work focuses on the temporal, the fleeting and inimitable moments that reflect the nature of opposites. “Growing up in Los Angeles, I was immersed in a world that centered on a rapidly evolving urban identity that was known for celebrating and embracing the unique, modern style of architecture that it was famous for. Growing up, I was strongly influenced by the work of my grandfather, a Yale architecture graduate who made Los Angeles his home. He went on to work with Richard Neutra and Frank Lloyd Wright, developing some of the most iconic homes in the city. My love of modern architecture is rooted deeply in my history, and that love of the modern form informs my work today. I am captivated by the way shadows fall sharply over sunlit walls, and shapes intersect and define the spaces within, creating a beautiful composition of light, shape and atmosphere. Growing up in such an environment was invigorating, yet my deeper need to find respite in nature and it’s gentle and mysteriously complex beauty compelled me to lose myself in natural parks in the mountains that ran through L.A.. For the sharp and clearly defined world I lived in, there was a perfect counterpoint in nature, pure, raw and chaotic. These two opposing forces are the core of what informs my work, it is what I think about as I go about my day. The bringing together of two opposites into a conversation of line shape, color and texture is the essence of what motivates each each painting that I create. Both exist in my visceral world, and I strive to give voice to the potential of opposite forces coming together in a deeply mysterious harmony.” Born in Los Angeles, Lynn began her career working as a set designer and art director for film and television for 33 years. Working on “Back To The Future 2”. “Batman”. Air Force One”. “The Insider” and TV shows “True Blood”. “House” and “Six Feet Under” to name a few. During that time she studied painting and drawing at Otis Parsons School of Art, Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art and California Art Institute. Lynn is a member of the California Art Club, where she was honored with 2 gold medals for her outstanding achievement in sculpture, both exhibitions held at the Western Heritage Museum in Los Angeles.
