About The Artwork

Painting: Japanese, Chinese ink, mineral pigments and watercolors on rice paper. Some years ago, I had the immense fortune to stay for the summer in a small wine village of the Priorat, a unique wine region in Catalonia. I was so impressed by the ancestral grapevines that grow in the small vineyards of this precious land that no other than this grapevine painting could have been born from the intimacy with the winemaker. The grapevine painting is mounted on a soft yellow silken scroll which enhances the autumn atmosphere. The scroll has a natural wooden roller at the bottom and is ready for hanging. The hanging scroll shows a grapevine with abundant grape clusters, brushed in an abstract pictorial language. The dark vine in black ink and the subtle colors of the wine grapes and foliage evoke the vineyard in late autumn. In my wine paintings the grapevine does not only stand for the physical plant but also symbolizes the spiritual seeker who becomes more and more mature and becomes ready to drink the glorious wine. Size of the scroll in cm: 177 x 91 x 0,2 cm. The width of the scroll without the rollers is 82 cm or 32 inches. The scroll will be shipped rolled in a traditionally-made silk box.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My artwork comprises Zen calligraphy, watercolor and ink paintings, and abstract calligraphies. My mediums are ink, watercolors and natural pigments on rice paper, mainly Xuan paper. I wield the Chinese and Japanese brush, preferably the flexible sheep's hair brush. Many of my Zen calligraphies express the Emptiness teaching from the Heart Sutra, which has been the original inspiration for my Japanese calligraphy artwork. Other calligraphies focus on the teachings of the Diamond Sutra, Platform Sutra, or depict Zen koan, Zen poetry or single kanji. In my watercolors and ink paintings I strive for a pictorial synthesis of the subject, in the spirit of Japanese ink painting, using bold washes and vivid brush strokes.
