About The Artwork

A year or several ago, we took a lightning trip round the South Island. I left my camera behind in Palmerston North (grrr), so I bought a new one in Christchurch, which developed a Black Spot in the middle of every photo after a couple of days (double grrr). Nevertheless, it provided reference images for many a painting (purr???). In the small print of my artistic licence, there's a proviso that states: "in addition to the aforementioned freedom afforded the artist to re-position, eliminate, decorate, add to, resize, or reshape photographic elements in an artwork, artists holding this licence are not required to reproduce faithfully, or at all, in whole or in part, flaws in photographs used as source reference for works of art produced under the terms of this licence, whether caused by defects in the photographic equipment or photographic ineptitude on the part of the operator." So I was free to omit the Black Spot from any artwork based on my photos. In fact, I left it in. It's about a third of the way from the left edge, and a third of the way up from the bottom.
