ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The “Tree Spirits” series is a project I started in 2004, at an Artist-in-residence project in the Tyrolean Alps in Austria. It was time to take a closer look at nature - after painting big sweeping vistas and landscapes for years, I developed an interest in the close ups of the rocks and trees that make up the landscape. Many a painting inspired by bark, lichen and moss was the result. Recently, and as a result of two commissions over the years that requested a larger scale, I have zoomed out to paint bigger versions of the Tree spirits paintings, and “Arbor 1” is the first in an ongoing series I am developing.
