I'm drawn to painting aerial views and panoramic vistas. Observing the world from above, feeling connecting to space and the aerial is a joy. In this piece, we are standing on top of a hill and we discover the world before us. Like when we are in a dark room, our eye needs to get accustomed to what’s before us. Here, it’s to take in the vastness, the openness. And it’s to get attuned to the dynamic spectacle. The filtered light is falling upon the green fields and bare uplands. Our eye is attracted to lighter colours in the distance and we realise we are looking at the sea, sparkling in the evening light. Then we start noticing darker shapes, are these islands or shadows? Is our mind playing tricks and deceiving us or are we seeing something real and diffuse? Where the horizon touches the sky is an area tantalizing and elusive. The brushstrokes suggest a hide and seek game that pushes the horizon further and further back as if reaching out to infinity and disappearing into the ether. This 20″ x 20″ X 1.75″ oil on deep edged canvas is ready to hang. The edges, painted white, are 1.75" deep so framing is not required. All my paintings are varnished to add a protective coat against dust. Only the highest quality archival fine art grade oil paints are used on the surface gessoed and prepared by myself. Packing: all work is packed professionally using protective compressed foam boards 2 cm deep so that your painting arrives safely.

Wandering through the landscape we're touched by its mood and light, we live in it, and it lives in us. This magical union is where my paintings are born. How can I make tangible on a paint surface a world that is full of magic and poetry? My finished pieces do not mirror a subject matter but are a representation of emotions felt in a specific time or place. Often the fleeting effect of a particular light and colour in nature are held somewhere in my visual memory. At some point, this takes centre stage on the painting I am working on. It may appear during the process of creation without an obvious connection to the subject matter at hand and yet, it adds another dimension, a particular atmosphere. These processes are ways and means by which I express my connection to nature in all its richness and variety. I am an Irish artist living and working in Provence France My work is rooted in the Romantic landscape tradition. I hold a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art (BFA). My work is in collections in France, the USA, Great Britain and Ireland.
