ABOUT THE ARTWORK

How to convey the tenderness and translucency of rose petals? I tried to do this with aniline dyes on natural silk. This artwork is made in the non-traditional technique of cold batik About me: I was born in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, a little country in the Eastern Europe, where I live and work and at present. My father worked as an agronomist in the vicinity of Chisinau, and every year in my childhood I spent the whole spring, summer and autumn in the gardens, fields and vineyards watching the life of plants and flowers. I really liked it. Sometimes it seemed to me that they all understand and even try to talk with me. But I did not become a scientist-botanic, but an artist-botanic. In 80'th I was graduated from art - decoration department of the Moldavian State Art College, named after I.E.Repin. After the college I started working as an artist on textile in the Union of popular crafts "Aurica". At the same time I got carried away by cold batik. I painted fabrics and decorative panels in the batik art technique. Later I improved in this technique by painting the women's clothes and accessories, during the cooperation with the Chisinau Fashion House. Over time, I began to create a purely picturesque artworks in cold batik (mainly floral still lifes and landscapes). Beginning at some point, I realized that I lacked the expressive means of the technical elements of the classic cold batik (such as "stock", "filling", etc.). For overcome this limitation, I began to additionally use the elements of the free painting in my artwork. So gradually I came to my own, individual synthetic technique, which is not typical for the classical batik and is closer to the watercolor technique in execution. It means that my paintings I make on natural silk by liquid (water soluble) aniline dyes for fabrics. This requires the same accuracy of the brushstroke as in the art-technique of watercolor: a single inaccurate movement by a brush - and an almost finished picture will have to be washed off completely. This also requires a delicate control onto the rates of spreading and drying of the liquid dye. After the pattern is ready, it is subjected to a steam treatment and becomes indelible by water. Dried picture stretched on hard cardboard or stretcher (like for canvas). My paintings bought by collectors from USA, Sweden, Canada, Germany, Russia, Moldova, Ukraine, Poland, Romanie, Israel and Japan.
