About The Artwork

The beauty of Alps make an enormous emotional impact on people — adventure seekers want to conquer it and artists want to portray the mountains in their art. Biancograt is no exception. It is the second semi abstract artwork from Biancograt series. I could not resist creating a mountain top on canvas after visiting Pontresina village (Switzerland), that lies near Piz Bernina - the highest mountain in Eastern Alps. The northern ridge of this mountain, called Biancograt, has inspired me to recreate the greatness of the ridge on canvas. The mountain is covered in snow, reaching for the cloudy skies and covered in soft reflections of the setting sun. The artwork is majestic and calming, just as the massif of Alps. As in most of his paintings, I used materials brought from the place that inspired me. This artwork is no exception and contains sand brought from the glacier. I also used marble dust, blue, grey, orange and white pigments. The artwork is stretched on a thick 4.5 cm chassis, reinforced with aluminium. The edges of the painting are nicely finished, so it does not require additional framing and is ready to hang. The artwork is signed on the back and comes with Certificate of Authenticity.

I started creating art in the eighties. At first I was fascinated by photography, later I started painting and experimenting with sculpture, but whatever art form I chose, it was always inspired by my adventurous expeditions. I spent a lot of time in Egypt, explored the landscapes of Morocco, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and felt the greatness of Bromo volcano in Indonesia. Colourful and sculpturesque landscapes are my major source of inspiration, especially deserts. I admire the colours, constantly changing shapes of the dunes and sand as a material. I return from all my trips with some sand, soil or volcano ash that I am using to create my art. Some of my pieces were born in the desert and later finished in my studio. My artworks are semi abstract models of the most beautiful landscapes of all the places I have explored and of course Switzerland — where I live and create. My goal is to lay the beauty and tranquility of nature on canvas, by creating emotional, deep and textured semi abstract artworks.
