About The Artwork

The work began as a color drenched oil and pigment painting on arches paper. But I never was happy with it. A few weeks ago with cold wax and pigment sticks, I altered the entire piece and it became wonderfully cohesive. It is a happy painting, a painting which is vulnerable in its spirit like a still wet chick, just hatched from the shell and looking around. There is an innocence in the painting. In terms of influences, the white of the ground perhaps might tie to Joan Mitchell, but the work has a figurative reference, not landscape. I really can not identify the influence but the materials are contemporary. This is another painting demonstrating a shift in my work which is exciting. I think the viewer may feel a bit bemused, happy, refreshed when seeing the work .
