Artistic sense shows in between the realistic and abstraction.... Transformation and unsaid...,,, sensing the air of the moment, maybe a tiny butterfly fluttering, south wind blowing softly, a cloudy day... I never paint flower just for its shapes and color, even though these iris series seem realistic. The poem, I Wondered Lonely As a Cloud, by William Wordsworth was after that same moment of beauty, as mine, from the universe while walking by the lake in Northern England, he encountered a long belt of golden daffodils. This Bloom in the Riot series is painting the mood on the very long belt of Irises swinging in the rain or mist or shinning under the sun. I wandered lonely as a cloud, That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. 我獨自一人漫步似雲,輕輕飄過溪谷與山丘; 突然間我看見一大片,成群的金色水仙花; 在湖邊,在樹下,搖曳輕舞在風中。 Continuous as the stars that shine and twinkle on the Milky Way, They stretched in never-ending line along the margin of a bay: Ten thousand saw I at a glance, tossing their heads in sprightly dance. 綿延不絕如星群,閃耀發光在銀河; 它們伸展成一線,沿著湖灣的岸緣; 一眼能見上萬朶,歡欣起舞齊點頭。 The waves beside them danced; but they Out-did the sparkling waves in glee: A poet could not but be gay, in such a jocund company: I gazed - and gazed - but little thought, what wealth the show to me had brought: 一旁水波也隨之起舞,但花群興致更高於波光粼粼, 詩人如我怎能不樂,得此愉悅的伴侶; 我看呀看著渾不思,此景於我如財富。 For oft, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude; And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils. 經常我在短榻小憩時,心緒茫茫或心情低迷; 這片花海乍然再現心眼,成為孤獨寂寞的福份; 心裡立即充滿歡喜,我與那些水仙再度共舞。

Sun has achieved the ultimate Chinese tradition in brush paintings, in which the Qi [energy] the Yun [rhythm] flow vividly. Her creations are embedded with atmospheric, poetic Eastern way of life. The viewers, on the other hand, receive her determine yet subtle touches of tranquility and elegance. —Mr. Wu Wei Ming, Director, Macau Museum of Art The art of Ines Sun straddles the worlds of East and West, as Mr. Ming observed in his comments on Sun’s Hyde Park in Spring, which was shown in “Beyond the Surface,” an exhibition of Chinese abstract art held in 2008. Sun was born in YEAR in Taipei, where she studied art before coming to New York in 1991 to pursue a master’s degree at New York University. Sun’s artistry is deeply rooted in the ancient tradition of Chinese scholarly painting, though she first studied Abstract Expressionism at the Art Students League of New York. Her ability to seamlessly interfuse the disciplines of abstraction and Chinese freehand brushwork is rare. Her immersion in East and West does not come from intellectual choices but rather from her equal fluency in both cultures, which has shaped her unique point of view. Sun’s blossoms series, her determined single brushstroke, and her inner strength have led her devoted patron Mei Ying, Director of Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players in New York, to call Sun the “Georgia O’Keefe of the East.” A pioneer in her art and her life, Sun courageously packed up her young family and traveled in China and New Zealand from 2007 to 2010, searching for inspiration for her work. Sun’s Wild Lily Tea Room, which Florence Fabricant of the New York Times called “a serene oasis with a small pool of water set into its multilevel stone floor,” was open in Chelsea, New York, from 1998 to 2006. Sun created this multilevel space to connect like-minded souls through art and tea. Celebrity customers came regularly to the humble tearoom, drawn by Sun’s hospitality. Sun strives to create that moment of poetry in life that often remains hidden. Sun has exhibited in the United States, New Zealand, and China, and her work is represented in private collections worldwide. She is also a writer, having published a memoir, Luck 5.4, in 2015. She has her own column on art and life at Storm Media, an online news outlet based in Taiwan. Sun lives and works in Brooklyn.
