About The Artwork

I have been inspired by Marcel Duchamp's work 'La Boîte-en-Valise,' which arose from his desire to create a portable retrospective of his own works. In 1935, he conceived the idea of assembling a box with miniature replicas of his art, turning it into a mobile museum. This innovative approach allowed Duchamp to redefine the role of the artist as both a salesman and curator of his own creations. In this painting, Duchamp's work seems to harbor a secret. It is presented closed and hermetic, concealing its interior and safeguarding its miniatures. Still life doesn't appear to unfold against a neutral backdrop but in an environment that seems maritime, perhaps on the sands of a Mediterranean beach. I aim for viewers to grasp the narrative embedded in artists creating their personal museums, exemplified by Duchamp's Boîte-en-Valise, Filliou's Galerie Légitime, and Broodthaers' Musée d'Art Moderne. The Davis Museum, manifested in an electoral urn and shared through social media, serves as a ready-made sculpture, a contemporary art collection, a digital archive, a non-profit collective project, and a culturally recognized entity. Within the Paintings Section, available for sale on Saatchi Art and DCS Contemporary, portraits and still lifes depict the referenced artists and their works. I selected oil on canvas for its historical richness and versatility, using premium materials like linen canvas and Old Holland oil paints for the Davis Museum paintings. The square format aligns with the museum's cubic structure. The color palette, evolving through 'Grey,' 'Blue,' and 'Full Color' periods, adds temporal depth to the artistic journey from 2011 to the present.
