ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This piece was inspired by a desire to combine my two favorite art genres: aviation and marine art. The Boeing 314 Clipper "flying boat" was popular in the late 1930's and early 1940's. The Clippers were built as "one-class" luxury aircraft for transoceanic flights. I've painted this to give the viewer of a rather ominous ocean environment feel, while displaying the power and beauty of the Clipper. While I have dabbled in other styles, I enjoy representational realism to portray my aviation work. This piece was done using oils on gesso board, with a looser brush stroke to give the feel of movement and fluidity.
