Bowl of lemons and butterflies is part of my long-running the Bowl series. I love painting lemons and I have been painting them numerous times in my still life. I never get bored of painting it. I love their golden yellow colour that play contrast with the blue and white porcelain bowl. The butterflies are flying around to add a sense of life to the picture. Lemon is a symbol of happiness and prosperity. In the Dutch still life, lemons symbolise luxury as well as the ephemeral of life

"My work explores the beauty of still life from objects and things around my life. I am inspired by the classical still life paintings especially from the Dutch and Flemish masters. My work often incorporates symbolic objects depicting the beauty of stillness, memory and transience. My concept is to create “Beauty” through the use of colour and composition that provokes thoughts on cultures, philosophies, place and time. Much of my work uses balanced composition with a sense of tranquillity. I am also inspired by the beauty of nature and flowers are one of my favourite subjects to paint. My painting style is realism and I paint predominantly in oil using traditional technique."
