About The Artwork

This painting is of the old Cattawade Bridge over the River Stour at Brantham. It is just a few miles downstream from Flatford Mill - the subject of many of John Constable's paintings, including 'The Haywain' which hangs in The National Gallery in London. Like Constable I am drawn to the strong contrast of the cloudy summer sky, and the colourful houses reflected in the river.
