About The Artwork

My current art project, “AnimAngels, Fraternal Creatures” presents the animals as angels. This particular point of view is inspired in Saint Francis of Assisi’s vision of animals and nature, so deeply connected to him that he called them as “brothers and sisters”. In my work they are pure and innocent creatures and I want to evoke their spiritual dimension. The strokes painted in the artworks are an exploration to transmit the soul of every animal, avoiding the discrimination made by humans between good and bad animals, giving to all of them the quality of a divine creation that we all have the responsibility to care and protect. At the actual world’s environment damaged by irresponsible industrial development and its consequent climate change, my mission seeks to sensitize and create an ecological conscience about animal’s protection. My most powerful tools to achieve this are beauty and mercy. That is why I entrust my hands to the Holy Spirit in every job. The Catalog of the exhibition "AnimAngeles, Sister Creatures" was selected by Fra Mauro Gambetti, Father Custode della Basilica Papale e Sacro Convento di San Francesco in Assisi, to be part of the Library of the Holy Convent and be available to the people who visit it.

"When I was 17, I received a commission from a priest who is now about to become the first saint in Uruguay. Since that day, I discovered that for me, painting is praying." Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, on the 30th May 1971 During his childhood he assisted to several art and ceramic workshops. As a young man and self-tought cartoonist, he published several caricatures and pictures in the most important national newspaper, “El Pais”. At that time also made a series of illustrations for the German Press Agency (DPA) designed for its global commercialization. In 1990 he starts to attend Norman Bottrill’s Art Academy, deepening his drawing and painting skills, becoming his assistant. In 1994 makes the art exhibition called “So on earth as in heaven” paying tribute to Padre Cacho, a priest that dedicated his life to help people living in the poorest Montevideo neighborhoods. Also took part of several collective art exhibitions. He is graduated in Communication Sciences at the Uruguayan Catholic University, where he is nowadays teacher of Creativity, one of the subject-matters of Advertising Career. He was recently invited to teach the Bachelor of Visual Arts, given his current path as a plastic artist. His advertising career was developed in agencies such as Ginkgo Saatchi & Saatchi, Lowe Lintas & Partners, Teorema, Cámara TBWA, Corporación JWT, IdeasLab, a creative laboratory he founded at LATU’s Technological Park, and McCann Montevideo. As a publicist he obtained several awards that Uruguayan advertising had never conquered as the first Cannes Lion, the first Clio Awards and the first London Awards. Gómez Guerrero has obtained more than 350 awards in local and international advertising festivals. All these awards make him one of the most awarded creatives of Uruguayan advertising.
